The Rural Medicine Program (RMP) at Auburn
University was created in 2006 to meet the medical
needs of the state of Alabama. The program is jointly
sponsored by the University of Alabama School of
Medicine (UASOM) and Auburn University’s College
of Sciences and Mathematics. The goal of the program
is to increase the number of primary care physicians
serving rural communities in the state of Alabama.

The RMEP program provides specialized education,
training and tools to better prepare students for service
in rural, underserved areas of Iowa. Initially, this
program is focused toward Des Moines University’s
osteopathic medical students and the primary care
physician shortage but will eventually provide
opportunities for additional disciplines and academic
institutions.

TRIP is a unique opportunity in clinical training
wherein third-year Tulane medical students live and
train for nine months in rural communities under the
supervision of an experienced, practicing primary care
preceptor. The principal preceptors, most of whom are
family physicians, mentor students in professional and
personal aspects of being a physician and guide the
student’s clinical work with other physicians and
health professionals in the community.

The program is based in Tuscaloosa and
conducted by CCHS, a branch of the University of

The Rural Track is the first track established in the
School of Medicine in 2005, and has become a model
for other tracks. Our goal is to identify students
interested in future rural living and medical practice,
and to provide them with broad-based knowledge,
practical experience, faculty mentorship and group
companionship that will help them explore rural
practice and decide if it is right for them.
The Colorado supplemental application to the standard AMCAS School of
Medicine application permits one to submit an application specific to the
Rural Track in addition to the general application to the School of
Medicine. One must have a complete application to the regular MD
Program to be considered for the Rural Track.

The Rural and Urban Underserved Medicine (RUUM)
Track is an early acceptance program that tracks gifted
undergraduate students into the U.F. College of
Medicine (COM) M.D. Program. The goal of the
program is to recruit and enroll undergraduate Juniors
who are academically excellent and who can
demonstrate a sincere interest in rural or urban
medicine and in practicing medicine to underserved
populations.
Submission of applications and candidate interviews occur during the
fall semester of a student’s junior year of enrollment at the University
of Florida.
Primary Applications will be solicited on this website in early-
September and will be due in the middle of September. Applicants
will include a copy of their transcripts with the Primary Application.
Secondary Applications will be sent to students who meet or exceed
program criteria.
The Secondary Application and letters of recommendation will be due
in October. Interviews will commence in November and will be
conducted by the Director of the RUUM Program and two members
of the Medical Student Acceptance Committee.

The Rural Health Program is an opportunity for

The Rural Health Care Track (RHCT) provides
opportunities that serve to expand existing curricular
experiences that emphasize the practice of rural
medicine throughout the 4 years of medical
school. Students choose a rural community where
they will complete multiple clerkships and strive to
learn about the characteristics of the community and
to develop partnerships within it.
To become an RHCT scholar, you will complete 5-6 months of
