Getting the Proper Fit
Protective apparel and equipment
that ts properly is vital to the
safety of the wearer. Knowing how
to measure and choose mitt or
glove sizes can increase safety
and productivity. To avoid injury
and promote use/compliance,
choose more than one size to
accommodate different wearers.
A one-size-ts-all approach
is simply ineffective.
Mitts or gloves that do not t
properly delay work and can result in hand injuries. Ones that are too small can cause hand fatigue or decrease dexterity.
Ones that are too large can get caught on jagged edges or moving parts of equipment and can be easily pulled off.
Choose the length of mitts and gloves based on application, job task or equipment type. Typically, 15- or 18-inch
lengths will meet the majority of your needs.

• Use a soft scrub brush to remove excess soil.
• For oven mitts with sewn in liners, turn the
mitt inside out for faster drying.
• For oven mitts with removable liners, remove
liner to wash; machine dry or hang on a
Safety Station to air dry.
• Once dry, reinsert liner into outer shell.

Understanding Cut Resistance
Cut resistance is measured by the amount of weight (in grams) required to cut through fabric.
Test results are then categorized into different cut levels: A1-A9 for the new ANSI cut levels and
A-F for the new European Norm (EN) 388 cut levels. While cut resistance is important and is
what makes cut resistant gloves suitable for protecting against cuts or lacerations, other factors
such as exibility, comfort, thickness and intended application should also be considered.

approach is simply ineffective. Correct t is very important!
It reduces the risk of injury and ensures a longer product life
cycle. Workers are also more likely to wear a glove that ts
properly and doesn’t slow them down.
